Original Screaming Jets band members Grant Walmsley and Richie Lara reunited for the first time in 26 years in 2019 to commemorate the 30-year anniversary of them founding the Screaming Jets.
“It may have been 26 years since we played together but the instant we started, it was a lightning strike right back to our glory days. We haven’t lost a thing”, states Walmsley.
To continue the celebration of such a milestone, JETSPLAYJETS are continuing the journey into 2020 and beyond.
In the early 90’s, the Jets, fresh out of Newcastle, led an international charge off the back of their debut smash album, taking on the United States and Europe, touring endlessly and sharing stages with the likes of Soundgarden, Alice in Chains, Pearl Jam, Robert Plant, Ugly Kid Joe, Faith No More, KISS and many more.
Now older and wiser, this new combination will be sure to capture new ears and please current fans. Guitarist Richie Lara states, “There is so much more we want to create and give musically, especially with the raw sound that is unmistakably Australian Rock”.
Fronting the all-star line-up is one of the countries most respected and revered singers, frontman Danny Young, with a rhythm section second to none with bassist Donovan Whitworth (LA) and drumming legend Steve ‘Mac’ McLennan, all joining forces with Walmsley and Lara to play their greatest hits from their unsurpassed international selling hit albums, the debut All For On’, Tear Of Thought and the iconic EP Living In England.
Anthemic songs like ‘Better’, ‘C’mon’, ‘Shivers’, ‘Helping Hand’, ‘Living in England’, ‘FRC’, ‘Blue Sashes’, ‘Tunnel’, ‘Starting Out’ and ‘Stop the World’ all deliver the classic and unmistakable twin guitar assault and song writing of the iconic guitar pairing of Walmsley and Lara. Fans have said, “this combination alone is synonymous with the original Jets sound”.
Lead singer Young, drummer Steve Mac and bassist Whitworth, have their own individual notable history with local and international success spanning over 30 years. Hardworking and dedicated, these three, are ready to weave their talent and experience into this new chapter.
Young, who has an iconic music pedigree (son of John Paul Young), has a solid history of writing, studio production and performing internationally. He fronted the Aztecs after the passing of Billy Thorpe, won the 2DayFM National Song Contest and also worked with legendary ACDC, Easybeats and JPY producer Harry Vanda, penning the theme song of the ‘The Asian Pacific Broadcasting Union FIFA World Cup Coverage’. Danny is a great choice to belt out both the old and the new Jets greats.
Young was once claimed by Billy Thorpe to “have a singing style that stood out from other singers in the industry”.
Donovan Whitworth, a bassist/producer from Los Angeles California, has worked with Queens of the Stone Age, Alice in Chains, Chris Cornell, Beastie Boys and Heart.
Steve ‘Mac’ McLennan is one of Australia’s most seasoned drummers with a career spanning four decades. He has been the powerhouse behind many classic Aussie bands including Swanee, Kevin Borich, Angry Anderson, Rob Riley, Megaboys and more.
